SUMMARY:NIH R15 Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions
DESCRIPTION:Overview of Webinar:  \n\n\n\nThe purpose of AREA is to support small scale research grants at institutions that do not receive substantial funding from the NIH\, with an emphasis on providing biomedical research experiences primarily for undergraduate students and enhancing the research environment at applicant institutions. Eligible institutions must award baccalaureate science degrees and have received no more than $6 million dollars per year of NIH support (in both direct and indirect costs) in 4 of the last 7 fiscal years. The AREA program will enable qualified scientists to receive support for small-scale research projects. Principal investigators supported under the AREA program will benefit from the opportunity to conduct independent research; the grantee institution will benefit from a research environment strengthened through AREA grants; and the students at recipient institutions will benefit from exposure to and participation in scientific research in the biomedical sciences so that they consider careers in biomedical research. DESCRIPTION:As a space dedicated to language\, the Writing Center looks forward to celebrating International Mother Language Day on Tuesday\, Feb. 21st from 1pm-3pm in L-632 (the faculty lounge in the Library Building). This day marks the importance of multilingual education and the value of bringing more languages into public life. To celebrate\, we will have a line-up of performances/readings in mother languages by students\, faculty\, and staff\, as well as time for attendees to share if they are inspired to do so. After a coercive interrogation\, CeCe was incarcerated in a men’s prison in Minnesota. DESCRIPTION:We invite you to consider mentoring talented students as part of City Tech’s Honors Scholars Program. City Tech encourages students who have demonstrated high academic achievement to undertake honors-level work in any course. Honors projects involve a substantial challenging assignment in addition to the standard requirements of the course (Note: Honors projects can be a research or a non-research project; for example\, photography\, writing an original computer program\, etc.). Specific expectations for honors credit in a regular course are negotiated between the student and professor and approved by both the department Chairperson and the Honors Scholars Program Director. Honors project credit is noted on the official student transcript. Please consider mentoring current Honors students in your course(s). \n\n\n\nIf you have a student who is eligible for the Honors Scholars Program (completed at least 12 credits at City Tech with a GPA of 3.4 or higher)\, please encourage that student to join the program and earn Honors credit in your course. \n\n\n\nWe have attached the form for honors credit in a regular course\, which is due Friday\, February 24. SUMMARY:LGBTQIA+ Faculty+Staff Collective
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in supporting LGBTQIA+ students\, faculty\, and staff at City Tech? Would you like to be part of creating a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all gender identities and expressions and sexualities? If so\, you are invited to participate in a meaningful and rewarding college-level service opportunity – an official LGBTQIA+ Faculty+Staff Collective. We are looking for anyone who would like to be part of this work at City Tech\, whether you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally. In 2022-2023\,  \n\n\n\nCity Tech was awarded $40\,000 to serve City Tech’s LGBTQIA+ students\, faculty\, and staff\, and we have been invited to apply for support in subsequent years as well. The funding comes from CUNY’s LGBTQIA+ Consortium (with support from LaGuardia Community College and the New York City Council and the Council’s LGBTQIA+ Caucus). The LGBTQIA+ Consortium is a CUNY-wide group that facilitates the archiving of LGBTQIA+ history across New York and supports LGBTQIA+ training\, education\, and programming. With this funding\, City Tech is now officially a member of the Consortium and will be using the money on a range of programming and initiatives\, including: \n\n\n\n\nEleven student internships\n\n\n\nLGBTQIA+ Student Infrastructure Initiative\n\n\n\nA Conversation on Gender in the Classroom Workshop for Faculty\n\n\n\nLGBTQIA+ Library Collection Development\n\n\n\nGender & Sexuality Studies Program Building\n\n\n\nLGBTQIA+ Literary Arts Festival speaker\n\n\n\nMeet The Pros with Rob Sanders and Jamey Christoph\, the creative team behind Stonewall A Building. an Uprising. a Revolution\n\n\n\nStop the Hate: Safer Space Training\n\n\n\n\nCity Tech already offers one of the few Academic Minors in the CUNY system focusing on an interdisciplinary approach to Gender & Sexuality Studies\, and there is so much possibility for City Tech to be a welcoming home for LGBTQIA+ community!
