SUMMARY:Honors Project Mentor Invitation
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to consider mentoring talented students as part of City Tech’s Honors Scholars Program. City Tech encourages students who have demonstrated high academic achievement to undertake honors-level work in any course. Honors projects involve a substantial challenging assignment in addition to the standard requirements of the course (Note: Honors projects can be a research or a non-research project; for example\, photography\, writing an original computer program\, etc.). Specific expectations for honors credit in a regular course are negotiated between the student and professor and approved by both the department Chairperson and the Honors Scholars Program Director. Honors project credit is noted on the official student transcript. Please consider mentoring current Honors students in your course(s). \n\n\n\nIf you have a student who is eligible for the Honors Scholars Program (completed at least 12 credits at City Tech with a GPA of 3.4 or higher)\, please encourage that student to join the program and earn Honors credit in your course. \n\n\n\nWe have attached the form for honors credit in a regular course\, which is due Friday\, February 24. If you have any questions\, please refer to our FAQ page (https://honors.citytech.cuny.edu/faq/) and/or contact the Assistant Director of the Honors Scholars Program\, Dr. Amanda L. SUMMARY:Call for Applications: OER Fellowship Cohort Program
DESCRIPTION:The call for OER Fellowship applications has been extended to next Tuesday\, September 12th.The Library seeks applicants for the Open Educational Resources (OER) Fellowship. Begun in 2015\, this funded program runs in conjunction with the CUNY-wide initiative funded by New York state to “engage faculty in the redesign of courses through the replacement of proprietary textbooks with open educational resources to reduce costs for students\, accelerate their progress\, and better connect curriculum and pedagogy to student learning outcomes.” Research conducted at City Tech and other institutions shows a correlation between assigning zero-cost OER and positive student outcomes: higher retention and comparable or better grades. We invite proposals from faculty new and returning to the OER Fellowship. Projects may be proposed at various stages of progress\, such as substantive expansions and/or revisions of existing OER. Goals for the OER initiative at City Tech: \n\n\n\n\nProvide students with long-term access to course learning materials (before\, during\, and after the course runs).\n\n\n\nSupport active learning and effective online instruction.\n\n\n\nHelp achieve curricular consistency across multiple course sections.\n\n\n\nHelp achieve coherence between sequential courses in programs.\n\n\n\nProvide instructors with ready to use teaching resources that can assist with flexible teaching/learning modalities.\n\n\n\n\nConsiderations for applying to the OER Fellowship Projects that incorporate active learning methods\, take a student-centered approach\, and address underrepresented and multidisciplinary subject areas are encouraged. Course selection: We encourage prioritizing OER for courses that are gateway\, high enrollment\, part of a course sequence\, required courses for a major or minor\, pathways\, etc.\, interdisciplinary in nature\, course curriculum that is underrepresented\, or inadequately represented by existing textbooks on the market.Types of OER projects that may be funded: \n\n\n\n\nZero-cost OER for a course that previously required a paid textbook (this may include first time experimental pilots to assign OER in place of paid course materials).\n\n\n\nZero-cost OER for a course with a recommended text that does not require paid materials.\n\n\n\nZero-cost OER for supplemental/ancillary teaching and learning materials (e.g.\, study guides\, review modules\, lessons\, discussion questions\, class activities\, lecture outlines\, writing assignments).\n\n\n\nSubstantive updates to already assigned zero-cost OER (must be openly licensed materials authored by the applicant or another scholar).\n\n\n\n\nFaculty Eligibility and OER Fellowship Requirements Eligibility \n\n\n\n\nFull-time faculty that coordinate or regularly teach at least one section of a course\, and have consulted with course / discipline coordinator and department chair.\n\n\n\nPart-time faculty on 1-3 year re-appointments\, with the approval of course / discipline coordinator and department chair.\n\n\n\n\nRequirements \n\n\n\n\nActive participation in an intentional community of practice among college peers. Fellows will participate in seven mandatory synchronous zoom meetings held on Fridays throughout the year (3 in fall; 4 in spring).\n\n\n\nLearning materials created/compiled through this project must be Creative Commons licensed (CC BY\, CC BY-SA\, CC BY-NC\, CC BY-NC-SA)\, public domain\, library digital resources\, or freely available to link to without violating copyright\n\n\n\nFinished projects must be shared publicly via an OpenLab site or other CUNY supported public platform (Pressbooks\, Manifold)\n\n\n\nProject work must be completed during the 2023-2024 academic year. All participants must complete their projects by June 15\, 2024.\n\n\n\n\nFunding InformationFaculty compensation will include project work and faculty development training. Faculty will be paid for participating in 14 hours of professional development meetings (at adjunct hourly NTA rate). In addition to this\, faculty stipends for OER projects typically range from $1\,300 – $5\,000\, depending on scope of work\, and are also calculated at the average non-teaching adjunct hourly rate. \n\n\n\nApply online by Tuesday\, September 12\, 2023. \n\n\n\nFaculty interested in proposing projects that may be outside the scope of this opportunity are encouraged to get in contact with Cailean Cooney promptly to explore whether the OER initiative can support your work this academic year. \n\n\n\nOther questions or things you’d like to discuss? Please get in touch with OER Librarian\, Cailean Cooney (ccooney@citytech.cuny.edu) or Interim Chief Librarian\, Anne Leonard (aleonard@citytech.cuny.edu). \n\n\n\nCheck out our website at Open Educational Resources at City Tech. \n\n\n\nView and download a PDF version of this call.

SUMMARY:Holistic Mentoring for Diverse Urban Student Populations
DESCRIPTION:Registration is open for this very special opportunity! The Louis Stokes Regional Center for Inclusive Mentoring in STEM will be offering a workshop at City Tech – Holistic Mentoring for Diverse Urban Student Populations. The workshop will be offered twice: \n\n\n\n\nFriday\, May 3 – 10am to 11:50am OR 2pm to 3:50pm\n\n\n\nIn person – A105\n\n\n\nSeats are limited – please register by April 26 HERE \n\n\n\n\n\nView Flyer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is an overwhelming body of research indicating that undergraduate scholars who participate in High Impact Practices such as research experiences benefit significantly from their interactions with their faculty mentors. The roles that faculty play as mentors form a multifaceted model that follows a specific mentoring cycle. In this workshop\, we will explore the main faces of mentoring\, in particular those that make it holistic\, the stages of a mentor-protégé relationship\, and recommendations by the National Academies to promote mentoring as a science. The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Benjamin C. Flores (UTEP)\, Dr. Audrey Boklage (UT)\, and Dr. Karina Vielma (UTSA).

SUMMARY:Call for OER Fellowship applications AY 25-26
DESCRIPTION:The Library seeks applicants for the Open Educational Resources (OER) Fellowship. \n\n\n\nWe invite proposals from new and returning faculty to the OER Fellowship. Projects may be proposed at various stages of progress\, such as substantive expansions and/or revisions of existing OER. \n\n\n\nGoals for the OER initiative at City Tech: \n\n\n\n\nProvide students with long-term access to course learning materials (before\, during\, and after the course runs).\n\n\n\nSupport active learning and effective online instruction.\n\n\n\nHelp achieve curricular consistency across multiple course sections.\n\n\n\nHelp achieve coherence between sequential courses in programs.\n\n\n\nProvide instructors with ready to use teaching resources that can assist with flexible teaching/learning modalities.\n\n\n\n\nConsiderations for applying to the OER Fellowship \n\n\n\nProjects that incorporate active learning methods\, take a student-centered approach\, and address underrepresented and multidisciplinary subject areas are encouraged.  \n\n\n\nCourse selection: \n\n\n\nWe encourage prioritizing OER for courses that are gateway\, high enrollment\, part of a course sequence\, required courses for a major or minor\, pathways\, etc.\, interdisciplinary in nature\, course curriculum that is underrepresented\, or inadequately represented by existing textbooks on the market. \n\n\n\nTypes of OER projects that may be funded: \n\n\n\n\nZero-cost OER for a course that previously required a paid textbook (this may include first time experimental pilots to assign OER in place of paid course materials).\n\n\n\nZero-cost OER for a course with a recommended text that does not require paid materials.\n\n\n\nZero-cost OER for supplemental/ancillary teaching and learning materials (e.g.\, study guides\, review modules\, lessons\, discussion questions\, class activities\, lecture outlines\, writing assignments).\n\n\n\nSubstantive updates to already assigned zero-cost OER (must be openly licensed materials authored by the applicant or another scholar).\n\n\n\n\nFaculty Eligibility and OER Fellowship Requirements \n\n\n\nEligibility \n\n\n\n\nFull-time faculty that coordinate or regularly teach at least one section of a course\, and have consulted with course / discipline coordinator and department chair.\n\n\n\nPart-time faculty on 1-3 year re-appointments\, with the approval of course / discipline coordinator and department chair.\n\n\n\n\nFellowship Requirements \n\n\n\n\nActive participation in an intentional community of practice among college peers. Fellows will participate in seven mandatory synchronous zoom meetings held on Fridays throughout the year (3 in fall; 4 in spring).\n\n\n\nLearning materials created/compiled through this project must be Creative Commons licensed (CC BY\, CC BY-SA\, CC BY-NC\, CC BY-NC-SA)\, public domain\, library digital resources\, or freely available to link to without violating copyright.\n\n\n\nFinished projects must be shared publicly via an OpenLab site or other CUNY supported public platform (Pressbooks\, Manifold).\n\n\n\nProject work must be completed during the 2025-2026 academic year. All participants must complete their projects by June 15\, 2026. \n\n\n\n\nFunding Information \n\n\n\nFaculty compensation will include project work and faculty development training. \n\n\n\nApply online by Thursday\, September 18th\, 2025. Please get in touch with OER Librarian\, Cailean Cooney (ccooney@citytech.cuny.edu) or Chief Librarian\, Junior Tidal (jtidal@citytech.cuny.edu).  \n\n\n\nVisit our website at Open Educational Resources at City Tech. \n\n\n\nDownload a PDF version of this call.
