SUMMARY:LGBTQIA+ limited film screening\, Heightened Scrutiny
DESCRIPTION:The LGBTQIA+ collective has the good fortune to bring the film Heightened Scrutiny to campus for a screening along with its director\, Sam Feder\, scheduled for May 6th at 3pm in the Auditorium of the Academic Complex. This is only the second screening of the film in NYC and it has been selected for a number of film festivals\, including Sundance. \n\n\n\nHEIGHTENED SCRUTINY follows Chase Strangio\, ACLU attorney and the first out trans person to argue before the Supreme Court\, as he fights a high-stakes legal battle to overturn Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth (United States v. Skrmetti). \n\n\n\nThe film exposes the dangerous role of mainstream media in fueling anti-trans legislation\, uncovering how biased coverage drives hate\, endangers lives\, and threatens democracy itself. \n\n\n\nThe screening is a chance for students and the City Tech community to see them/ourselves\, friends\, classmates\, etc reflected on the big screen doing big things for and by trans and LGBTQIA+ people and supporters of justice. As we know\, trans rights have come under even greater attack in recent months. \n\n\n\nPlease RSVP with Eventbrite here. \n\n\n\nPlease share widely.

SUMMARY:RFCUNY Brown Bag Research Webinars: NIH Grant Programs for CUNY Postdoctoral Researchers
DESCRIPTION:Overview: The purpose of this webinar is to describe the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32) program which supports research training of highly promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive\, independent investigators in scientific health-related research fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. These fellowships are designed specifically for candidates proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial\, a clinical trial feasibility study\, or an ancillary clinical trial\, but does allow candidates to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a sponsor or co-sponsor. The research and training plans are expected to provide the candidate with a strong understanding of research design\, experimental methods\, quantitative approaches\, and data analysis. Applications are expected to incorporate exceptional mentorship. The training plan should document the need for\, and the anticipated value of the proposed mentored training in relationship to the individual’s research career goals. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAudience: All CUNY Postdoctoral Researchers in all disciplines directly or indirectly related to healthPresenter: John Tsapogas\, RFCUNY APPS DirectorAudience: All CUNY Postdoctoral ResearchersRegistration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4675959511355437909Webinar ID: 696-108-891

SUMMARY:RFCUNY Brown Bag Research Webinars: Federal Grants for Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs)
DESCRIPTION:Overview: Most CUNY colleges are designated as Hispanic Serving Institutions. HSIs play a vital role in our nation’s higher education framework. For more than a century\, the diversity of Hispanic and Latino students makes our classrooms across the country rich learning and research environments. For many Hispanic and Latino students\, HSIs provide critical pathways to opportunity\, and hundreds of HSIs across our Nation are advancing inter-generational mobility\, success\, and opportunity. For these reasons\, it is important to ensure that in higher education HSIs receive an increasing level of research and education support. In recent years\, Federal funding agencies have developed grant programs that target HSIs in their programs. In this webinar we will cover details on HSIs programs within the National Institutes of Health\, the National Science Foundation\, the National Endowment for the Humanities\, and the U.S. Department of Education. The focus of the webinar is to provide broad coverage on the types of grants that have targeted HSIs as eligible institutions for research and education support and to share with CUNY faculty strategies for successfully applying for these grants. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAudience: All CUNY FacultyPresenter: John Tsapogas\, RFCUNY APPS DirectorRegistration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/1352830751649417816Webinar ID: 287-836-507
