SUMMARY:BLACK HISTORY MONTH THEME: BANNED BLACK BOOK MONTH
DESCRIPTION:To combat the continued assault on Black history and culture\, and especially books by Black authors\, AFR and the Library are hosting a Banned Black Book Month for Black History Month 2024.  We are soliciting the names and titles of books by Black authors that have been banned in any capacity (regionally\, educationally\, etc.). Selected works will be featured in the Library display cases.  All recommendations can be submitted to Wanett Clyde (wclyde@citytech.cuny.edu) by Feb. 13\, 2024.  \n\n\n\nTwo events stem from this theme: \n\n\n\nDouglass Day Transcribe-a-Thon:Douglass Day is an annual program organized by Penn State University’s Black Digital Research Center and it marks the birth of Frederick Douglass! During the transcribe-a-thon\, participants around the world will transcribe a large collection of digitized papers left by Frederick Douglass. This event will be held virtually Wednesday\, February 14\, 2024 from 1:00-2:00pm.  See Zoom link here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82751896359?pwd=OW1mdmg4Rm9WdkEwck1LbFlLSUxoZz09. For questions about the City Tech event\, contact Javiela Evangelista at jevangelista@citytech.cuny.edu. \n\n\n\nBanned Black Book Panel: Join professors from AFR and ENG for a panel discussion on Banned Black Books on Tuesday\, Feb. 20\, 2024 from 11:30-1:00 in a105.
