SIAM/SACNAS Talk: Different Differences by Dr. Ron Buckmire

City Tech’s SIAM Student Chapter and CUNY’s SACNAS Professional Chapter present Dr. Ron Buckmire for a talk titled “Different Differences: An Introduction to Nonstandard Finite Difference Schemes.” This will also mark the first SACNAS event held on our campus.

Dr. Buckmire is Dean of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics at Marist College and Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Occidental College. In 2023, he was named a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) — the first person from a small liberal arts college, the fourth Black person, and the first openly LGBTQ+ person to receive this distinction. While the talk is primarily aimed at undergraduate students, the content is also of considerable interest to faculty.
