Los Pirineos, the mostly true memoirs of Esperancita Gomez, is a fictionalized graphic memoir chronicling a young girl’s upbringing in and eventual exile from 1940’s Colombia, told through the lens of childhood imagination, and is the collaborative product of mother/daughter team, Leila and Sara Gómez Woolley. This book was researched on location in Colombia with the help of a PSC-CUNY award, and the manuscript was edited with the support of the CUNY FFPP program. As of July of 2021, this book has been acquired for publication by Lee & Low Books, the largest multicultural children’s book publisher in the United States.
