Academic Service Learning

Academic Service Learning

Academic Service Learning is an experiential pedagogy and philosophy. Faculty design their learning activities to engage students through community service and civic engagement to develop a deeper understanding of their chosen discipline and how it serves a need in their community. By linking service and learning through a guided active and a reflective process, extensive research has shown that engaged students take ownership of their learning. As a result, student retention rates increase and they continue civic work as contributing citizens after graduation.
