Abstract:
This talk will describe past and current efforts to leverage artificial intelligence techniques in the development of an interactive software agent capable of improvising music with input from A human performer. Topics to be discussed include the philosophical justification for incorporation of artificial agents in music improvisation, the artist/developer’s approach to the ethics of building automated media creation systems, technical aspects of the work, such as methods of music information retrieval and audio synthesis, and compositional problems and considerations unique to real-time music performance systems.
