Nina Bannett Publishes Second Poetry Collection, Persephone’s Alibi

Nina Bannett (English) has published a second book of poetry, Persephone’s Alibi, published by David Robert Books (2024), is a sharply etched collection of sketches of a friendship’s arc.  Some poems from the collection were previously published in North American Review, WomenArts Quarterly, LUMINA and elsewhere.  Nina will be reading from Persephone’s Alibi at a joint reading with English Professor George Guida on Thursday December 12 at City Tech.

Pegah Khosravi Featured in CUNY Research in Focus for AI-Driven Oncology Research

Pegah Kosravi (Biological Sciences) was featured in the inaugural issue of CUNY Research in Focus in October: “AI technology is transforming oncology and Dr. Pegah Khosravi stands at the forefront of this revolution. Now an Assistant Professor at the CUNY Graduate Center and New York City College of Technology (City Tech), as well as the founder of the BioMind AI Lab, her pioneering research in AI-driven oncology began in 2017 during a postdoctoral project at Weill Cornell Medical College. There, she developed an AI model to differentiate cancer biomarkers—while simultaneously battling breast cancer herself.”  Read more . . . 

Monica Berger Publishes New Book on Predatory Publishing and Global Scholarly Communications

Monica Berger (Library) has written a book on predatory publishing, Predatory Publishing and Global Scholarly Communications (ACRL). The book explores the practice of poor-quality journals, often illegitimately and unethically, publishing scholarly material without rigorous peer review. ​ It examines predatory publishing across the world, inside and outside of the library community, and provides tools for understanding and teaching its impact and contributing to its improvement. 

Ivan Guzman Travels to Puerto Rico as USDA Science Fellow for Agricultural Research

Ivan Guzman (Associate Professor, Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology) recently traveled to Puerto Rico as a U.S. Department of Agriculture science fellow, part of a program that strengthens educational partnerships with faculty and staff from Hispanic-Serving Institutions. He spent a week gaining insights into agricultural practices, green roofing and research at the International Institute of Tropical Forestry. Read more . . .

Esteban Beita Honored with SARA Design Award for Japanese Tea House Pavilion

Esteban Beita (Architectural Technology) was honored with an Design Award of Merit from the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) in June for his design of a Japanese Tea House Pavilion. Professor Beita’s firm, Wabi Design, specializes in the implementation of traditional Japanese design principles in contemporary architecture and his research focuses on the application of these design principles for the improvement of urban spaces. Todd Craig Wins NCTE’s David H. Russell Award for Research in Teaching English

Todd Craig (African American Studies and CUNY Grad Center) is the recipient of the David H. Russell Award for Distinguished Research in the Teaching of English from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). The NCTE awards recognize literacy educators and experts for their commitment to work that advances literacy, the field of education, and the NCTE. Professor Craig was highlighted as a scholar who explores racial literacies, culture, and identity through the perspective of the Hip Hop DJ in his research and in his book, “K for the Way”: DJ Rhetoric and Literacy for 21st Century Writing Studies (Utah State University Press). City Tech Team Wins $174K Mother Cabrini Foundation Grant for Radiologic Tech Equipment

Maureen Archer-Festa (School of Professional Studies), Beth Levine (City Tech Foundation), and Ryan Rowe (Radiologic Tech & Medical Imaging) submitted a successful proposal to the Mother Cabrini Foundation for $174,630 to purchase an anatomage table and a portable radiographic unit for the Department of Radiologic Tech & Medical Imaging.

Soyeon Cho Receives $100K SSA Grant to Address Barriers for Asian American Older Adults

Soyeon Cho (Human Services) submitted a proposal to the NY Retirement & Disability Research Center in May for the project: Enhancing Equity in SSA Services: Addressing the Barriers Faced by Asian American Older Adults in Chinese, Korean, and Indian Communities, which was accepted for funding by the Social Security Administration! The research grant is for a total of $100,000
