Camille Goodison Interview Selected for Callaloo 50th Anniversary Issue

Camille Goodison (English) was honored when her interview with Greg Tate was selected for the special 50th anniversary issue of Callaloo, premiere journal of literature, art and culture of the African Diaspora. Editors selected from the hundreds of interviews published in the journal throughout its 50-year history.

The journal, which is housed at Brown University, and publishes four times a year, defines itself as “devoted to creative works by and critical studies of Black writers worldwide.”

Mery Diaz Receives Inaugural Dr. Guillermo Linares Leadership Award

Mery Diaz (Human Services) was awarded the inaugural Dr. Guillermo Linares Leadership Award by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) in recognition of her exceptional leadership, commitment, and longstanding work supporting low-income and first-generation students, particularly across CUNY.

Diaz serves as faculty liaison for the CREAR Futuros peer-mentoring program, has been closely involved in initiatives such as First Year Learning Communities and the “Our Stories” research program, and was one of the founding members of City Tech’s Hispanic-Serving Institution Committee.

Inés Corujo Martín Awarded 2026 Franklin Research Grant

Inés Corujo Martín (Humanities) was awarded a 2026 Franklin Research Grant from the American Philosophical Society for her book project, Fashioning the Hispanic World (1820–1898). She also recently published a book chapter, “Manila Shawls, Trading Routes, and Global Encounters,” in The New Latin American Fashion Reader, edited by Regina A. Root and Stephanie Saunders, Bloomsbury Visual Arts, 2025, pp. 39–55.

Peter Catapano Appointed to CUNY University Advisory Council on Diversity

Peter Catapano (Social Science) has been appointed to serve as a member of the University Advisory Council on Diversity (UACD) during the 2025-2026 academic year in recognition of his commitment to promoting the values of diversity, equity and inclusion at CUNY. The UACD is devoted to information exchange, assisting with policy decisions and other programmatic issues.

Reginald Blake and Hamidreza Norouzi Lead Students to AMS Meeting in Houston

Reginald Blake (Associate Provost and Dean of Curriculum And Research) and Hamidreza Norouzi (Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology) traveled with eight students to the 106th annual American Meteorological Society (AMS) Meeting in Houston, Texas, where the students presented research on satellite and ground-based remote sensing related to atmospheric physics.

Nina Bannett’s Poetry Collection Accepted for 2027 Publication

Nina Bannett (English) reports that her new book of poems, Fractured Daughters Who Mother Homonyms, has been accepted for publication in 2027 by Lit Fox Books. The collection will explore intergenerational trauma among three generations of women.

Sitaji Gurung Awarded CUNY Research in the Classroom Grant

Sitaji Gurung (Health Sciences) was awarded one of CUNY’s highly competitive Research in the Classroom (RIC) grants. The $10,000 in funding will support the integration of real-world research experience using medical metrics into HSCI 4201.
