Eugenia G. Giannopoulou Named Teacher of the Year

Eugenia G. Giannopoulou (Biological Sciences) was named City Tech’s 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year at a celebration with colleagues, students and family in the Academic Complex on November 19, in recognition of her exceptional teaching, mentorship and leadership in biomedical informatics.

Sean Carey and Team Win Five CEANY Awards

Sean Carey (Division of Continuing Education), his team, students, and collaborators were recently recognized with five outstanding awards and two accepted conference proposals at the 2025 Continuing Education Association of New York (CEANY) Annual Conference, acknowledging the College’s outstanding programs, partnerships and innovation. The recognitions included Outstanding Continuing Education Instructor awarded to Kamal “Nito” Mehra and a presentation on City Tech’s microcredential initiative with Professor Ben Mendoza.

Alyssa Adomaitis Co-Authors Body Appreciation Study

Alyssa Adomaitis (Business) has co-authored Body Appreciation as a Means to Protect Social Media Users from Body Dissatisfaction. The study highlights the impact social media has on its users and analyzes how dissatisfaction from online appearance-based behaviors can be managed through body positivity as a self-esteem protective tool.

Denise Sutton Publishes on Romance Publishing and Presents Internationally

Denise Sutton (Business) published the article “Romance Publishing for a New Generation: The Case of Harlequin Mills & Boon in India,” in Publishing History, vol. 89: 7-28, 2025. Professor Sutton also gave two invited presentations, “A Colonial Library: The Case of Mills & Boon in India,” at the Centre for Print Culture, University of Sussex, England in November, and “Social Reform Movements and Alternative Business Models in the Fashion and Beauty Industries,” for Culture/Nature ERASMUS+ project, Baden, Austria in October 2025, and made an invited guest appearance on the CUNY TV show A Slice of New York to talk about trends in fashion in April, 2025.

Sean Scanlan Releases NANO Special Issue on Interviews

Sean Scanlan (English), founder and editor of NANO: New American Notes Online, released Special Issue 17 of the open access humanities journal, focused on the ways interviews connect people. Interviews by and with colleagues Jason Ellis and Laura Westengard, are among the contributions to this exploration of interview forms. Read the issue here.

Josh Kapusinski’s Students Win Health of Advertising Brand Challenge

Josh A. Kapusinski (Communication Design) was the sponsoring professor for a team of Communication Design students, winners of second place in the fourth annual Health of Advertising Brand Challenge, an Omnicom Health (OHG) program designed to introduce emerging university talent to the world of healthcare advertising. Students received additional support from faculty members Richard Pels, Douglas Davis and COMD chair George Garrastegui as well as mentorship throughout the five-week program from industry representatives. Reginald Blake Featured in CUNY Research Focus on COVID and Heat

Reginald Blake (Associate Provost) was featured in CUNY Research Focus in December for his investigations of how COVID-19 and extreme heat jointly threaten New York City’s most vulnerable neighborhoods. His research shows that low-income communities with limited green space, overcrowded housing, and fewer cooling resources faced the highest combined risks during the pandemic. Read the article here.
